The character and the costume

NieR: Automata is one of my favorite videogames, a title I deeply appreciate for its atmosphere, soundtrack, storytelling, and unique character designs. Among its cast, A2 stands out for her raw personality, solitary nature, and battle-scarred appearance.
My A2 cosplay combines different fabrics with opposite light reflections, creating depth and contrast depending on movement and lighting. The legs feature gradient “doll-like” patterns reinterpreted with an android aesthetic, echoing the visual identity of the YoRHa units. Then I chose to pair the costume with the iconic Beastlord greatsword, one of the most recognizable weapons from the game.

A2 cosplay Tutorial

For this cosplay, I tested many different fabrics to find the perfect balance between texture, light reflection, thickness, and elasticity, since the outfit needs to fit almost like a second skin. I drafted all the patterns myself and personally sewed every piece of the costume, including the top, gloves, shorts, and stockings.
The embroidery on the top was created by Reika.BlackCandy: since I do not own an embroidery machine and the deadline was too tight for hand embroidery, I collaborated with her for this specific detail.

The leggings were custom-made with a gradient finish and hand-drawn android-style lines, with the synthetic aesthetic of the game.

The Beastlord sword combines multiple materials, including EVA foam, filament 3D printing, resin details, and metal components. It is also built in two separate sections to make transport much easier during conventions and travel.
